Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-8). Examples of specialized experience are:
With provided direction collected cones, foliar and soil samples, and planted new seed orchard material; With guidance monitored for insect, animal and disease damage, and implemented treatment options. under the direction of the Seed Orchard Manager and Regional experts; Conducted reforestation and stocking surveys of recently planted tracts; Conducted on-site observation of crews engaged in timber stand improvement or reforestation efforts; Inspected silvicultural contract work for compliance with contract; and/or Corrected minor problems in direct contact with a contracting officer representative. For the GS-10 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9). Examples of specialized experience are:
assists with writing genetic management strategies; development of fertilization and irrigation regimes to meet project objectives; monitoring for insect and disease damage, assists with determining treatment options, and carries out treatments, collection and grafting of scion to rootstock and out-planting; and establishing new seed orchards from approved designs. For the GS-11 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-10). Examples of specialized experience are:
manages a seed orchard which produced cone crops; collected, maintained and managed data gathered on a seed orchard; reviewed and recommended and initiated development activities at a seed orchard; and applied forestry, silviculture, and nursery procedures in order to manage the survival of trees on a seed orchard. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:
If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
